OF BRESCIA CONVERTED TO PERCUSSION WITH BARREL BY GIESU MUTTI. Cal. 60. S# NSN. 20-1/2" barrel with octagonal rear section transitions to round through wedding band and then to laterally ovate muzzle that measures 1-7/8" across. There are two large and nine small poincon at breech end; one marked for Giesu Mutti working in Gardone around 1750. Barrel is converted to percussion with large fancy drum and nipple. Lock with thick flat plate having rebated tail is marked "FRAN*BIGONI*" (Franco working in Brescia 1740-80). A heavy flat faced hammer has been installed. Very fine raised floral chasing is at rear of lockplate. Folding stock of fancy grain Italian walnut has push button detent at top of grip and hinge at bottom. There are raised mouldings around all flush brass mounts. Foliate carving highlights finials of buttplate, rear of trigger guard and barrel tang. Furniture finials and sideplate are of fancy form. A 6" belt hook is affixed to left side of stock. CONDITION: good. Iron cleaned to silver gray. Brass is nicely toned. Wood exhibits most of its old finish with many marks and dings. Fore part of stock professionally restored from thimble to muzzle. Bore is rusted. Lock operable.
