GUN BY JOSEPH DEFOURNY. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 10999 (1935). The 26 3/4" dovetailed bbls. with slightly raised matted rib are engraved "A. JOS. DEFOURNY" "FABRICANT" "a Herstal-Liege" on tops. Bbl. flats are stamped with 1935 Belgian nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Bottom of bbls. are stamped "Compressed Steel". A sling loop is screwed on bottom rib. Casehardened self opening action is a hybrid with Beesley style cocking cams powering mainsprings in forend. Action is stocked to the fences and features nonautomatic safety ("S" inlaid in gold), hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, reinforced action bar and double triggers. Action is engraved with full coverage very nicely cut large open shaded scroll with floral and strap work accents on bottom. Similar relief scroll is on fences and reinforce. Lockplates are engraved only with scroll. Trigger guard, with matching scroll on bow, has serial number on tang. Lightly marbled and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 1/4" over horn buttplate with checkered center. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS.: Bore Diameter: R: .731", L: .731". Restrictions: R: .030" (FULL), L: .042" (EXTRA FULL). Minimum Wall Thickness: R: .021", L: .015" (small area at top about 9" behind muzzle). STOCK: DAH: 2 1/4". DAC: 1 3/8". CAST: approx. 3/8" off. LOP: 14 1/4". WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: fine. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a reblue over some light pitting and marks. Action and lockplates have scant traces of original casehardening color, and are mostly silver to gray. Buttstock has original finish removed toward butt with a good scattering of scratches and light marks. Forend retains some original oil finish. Checkering on both is considerably worn and dirty. Bores are bright and shiny with 1 or 2 minor dents noted in right bbl. 5" from muzzle. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. (22-1175/MGM). CURIO. $4,000-8,000.
