C96 BROOMHANDLE SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH MATCHING STOCK. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 290940. Bbl. 5 1/2". C96 Broomhandle semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser and subsequently issued to the Imperial German military. The top flat of the faceted breech is marked with Mauser's 3-line address, with the S# on the left quarter flat, a double crowned "U" commercial proof on the left flat, and a crowned Imperial German military acceptance proof on the right flat. Right side of the frame is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A.NECKAR". Frame and bbl./bbl. extension exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts either being polished in-the-white or nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood grips. Fixed blade front sight with V-notch tangent rear sight graduated 50-1000. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, sub-frame assembly, locking block, floorplate, bbl./bbl. extension, bolt stop, bolt, as well as the grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: matching Imperially proofed wood shoulder stock, carved "S. KATZ" on the left side. Holster is housed within a brown leather harness marked "JOSEPH MOLL/ GOCH/ 1916", followed by a faint handwritten "290940" on the rear. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting mild edge wear and thinning, and scattered patches of wear, some spots of freckling, some areas of light pitting. Bbl. exhibits patches and streaks of wear and scattered handling marks showing through to silvering. In-the-white parts show some spots of age related discoloration. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some marks and impressions, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Stock shows numerous scattered marks and impressions, with a pin repaired crack on the mating face of the lid. Metal hardware has worn to a gray patina, with the hinge plate showing varying degrees of dark oxidation. Harness remains malleable, showing scattered marks from handling and storage, with areas of age related cracking and crazing. A highly desirable, all matching example of an Imperial German issued C96, complete with its matching stock. (25-3724/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,250.
