SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH MATCHING STOCK. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 139718. Bbl. 5 1/2". Standard configuration C96 "Red 9" semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser during World War I. The top flat of the faceted breech is marked with Mauser's 3-line address, with the S# marked on the left quarter flat, and a double crowned "U" proof stamped on the left. Right side of frame is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A NECKAR". Frame, bbl./bbl. extension, and floorplate exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some smaller components including the trigger, rear sight slide, extractor, bolt stop, and safety lever exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Bolt is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood red "9" grips. Standard blade front sight with tangent rear sight graduated 50-500. All numbers are matching and include the frame, lock frame, sear, locking block, hammer, floorplate, bbl./bbl. extension, bolt stop, bolt, as well as the grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: plain wood stock holster with a matching lug. Stock appears to have been sanded and revarnished at one time. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of light to mild wear that shows through to gray and brown patinas (primarily present on the bbl., some high edges, and along the edges of the floorplate), with superficial handling marks and some light surface oxidation present overall. Nitre blue components exhibit wear and thinning, with worn areas exhibiting a gray patina and scattered spots of age related discoloration. Bolt exhibits areas of age related discoloration overall. Very bright bore, exhibiting some light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing some scattered superficial handling marks and impressions overall. Stock exhibits scattered marks, dings, and impressions from handling and storage, with the metal hardware showing moderate oxidation overall. An honest and all matching example of a World War I era Mauser C96 "Red 9" pistol. (24-4034/MLW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
