HOFFMAN ATTACHMENT SCABBARD. The 8 1/2" blade has 6" fullers. Bayonet is 13 1/8" overall. The blades were purpose built & not cut down from longer models. Blade is marked on left ricasso "1900" & right ricasso "US". Straight cross guard. Birdshead pommel. Smooth walnut grips attached by 2 rivets. Unmarked blued steel scabbard w/ ball finial. The scabbard uses the Hoffman attachment leather belt loop which attaches to the 100 degree swiveling arm by 2 brass rivets. The markings on the back of the leather are not legible but are likely Rock Island Arsenal. There is the remains of a paper tag on the back which appear to be marked w/ an individual's name. CONDITION: metal parts are finished bright. Blade is turning gray w/ scattered peppery oxidation and light wear. Balance of metal parts are darker gray w/ scattered tiny dents & handling marks w/ light wear. Grips have light wear & staining. Scabbard retains 50% thinning, worn blue finish w/ spots of very light oxidation. Leather has wear, scuffing & flexing rendering markings illegible. PROVANANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.(02-18448/RW). $1,000-2,000.
