SHOTGUN. Cal. 16 Ga., 2 1/2". S# 8904. Barrels 30" of fine Damascus steel with concave sunken solid rib. Rib is marked "HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON" and "WINNERS OF ALL THE "FIELD" RIFLE TRIALS 1883". Holland & Holland pattern seven pin sidelock action. Top lever is marked 'PATENT No. 23". Beesly pattern lock plates. Double under lug locking. Double triggers. Extractors. Full coverage traditional English pattern rose and scroll engraving that extend to the forearm iron with highlights on the breech end of barrels. Floorplate is engraved "THE ROYAL / PATENT SAFETY / HAMMERLESS". Top tang has gold inlaid "SAFE" marking. Splinter forearm with Anson fastener. Hard rubber capped pistol grip stock of exhibition quality English walnut. Features include Point pattern wrap around hand checkering, tear drop points and oval name plate in toeline. LOP: 14 1/2" over a grooved hard rubber buttplate. DAC: 1 1/2". DAH: 2 1/8". Stock has approximately 1/2" cast off. BORE DIAMETER: right - .675", left - .672". CHOKE CONSTRICTION: right - .010", left - .010". MINIMUM WALL THICKNESS: right - .020" , left - .030". WEIGHT: 6 pounds, 6.8 ounces. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: leather covered luggage case with brass corners and red felt fitted interior. Holland & Holland paper label is detached. CONDITION: action shows a pleasing silvery patina with faint traces of case colors remaining in protected areas. Barrels have very good rebrowned finish. Stocks have good finish and checkering showing small scratches and marks. Very good bright bores. Action is tight with top lever setting barely left of center. (01-23344/DS). ANTIQUE. $8,000-12,000.
