Cal. 295/300 "Rook". S# 9573. Appears to be a "Best Quality" variety of a rook & rabbit rifle circa the 1890's; rifle is stamped with pre 1896 London Black Powder proofs (Crown CP & V). The oct. 26" barrel has blade front sight & 2 leaf rear sight. Barrel has .10" counter bored section at muzzle. Top flat engraved "HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND ST LONDON". Polished blued receiver have wedges of acanthus scroll engraving throughout. Checkered walnut forearm with wedge fastener. Checkered straight grip buttstock. LOP: 14.75" steel buttplate. CONDITION: fair dull barrel blue mixed with brown patina & scattered light marks throughout. Frame has large sections of vibrant polished blue finish with equal portions of worn metal to gray patina on receiver carry areas & triggerguard tang. Wood has good finish with dings, marks & flattened diamonds throughout. Bore shows pitting in front of chamber & extending from muzzle, balance shows shine & strong rifling. (01-26893/MD).
