BLUE ENAMEL. Otto Bodenstein had a unique style of engraving with enameled highlights seen only on Merwin & Hubert & Hopkins & Allen revolvers. Bodenstein engraved for a very short period with Colt, but engraved exclusively for Hopkins for majority of his work in late 1880s. Standard configuration, 2.75" octagonal barrel, top strap has makers mark and patents. Bodenstein's signature intaglio swirls with dark blue enamel in the deepest cuts, mounted with two piece smooth mother of pearl grips. CONDITION: very good define overall, revolver retains 95% plus original nickel, engraving retains most of its original enamel highlights. The cylinder was originally gold plated with same engraving but only traces of original gold are found on cylinder and cylinder pin. Mechanically revolver will rotate but mainspring is broken, good rifled bore. PROVENANCE: from Martin Lane Historic & Western Americana Lifetime Collection. (01-24628/JS). ANTIQUE. $500-700
