44 HE DA REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Spcl. S# 43903. Bbl. 5" pinned. Round blade front sight. Fixed rear sight. Matching numbers on grip frame, bbl., cyl. & extractor. 3rd Model 44 Hand ejector also known as the Wolf & Klar Model. The revolver so-named due to changes suggested by the Fort Wort dealer to S&W for this model. Backstrap has Houston Police marking that reads "H.P.D. 304". The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson states that an estimated 300 of this model were shipped to Wolf & Klar for the Houston Police Department in the 1930's. The guns had 5" bbls. & "H.P.D." inventory numbers on the backstrap just as this one has. Blued finish with case colored trigger & hammer. Checkered walnut grip panels with diamond center & silver S&W medallions. Right panel is numbered "149493". Tyler grip extension present on front of grip frame. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory letter that states this revolver was shipped to Peden Iron & Steel in Houston for the HPD in 1934. It confirms the gun's configuration & states it was part of a 15 gun shipment. Also included is a copy of the invoice with a price of $22 a revolver. CONDITION: grips show some scattered light dings & handling marks. Hammer & trigger retain most of their case colors with some light oxidation & operational wear. Balance of metal retains 85% factory quality reblue with scattered edge wear, fading & a couple areas of light oxidation. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Very good bright bore.
