Graceful spread wing eagle perched on a large ball which rests on a large arrow. Wonderful detailed feathers, slightly turned head and open mouth. Detail of the feathers on top and bottom having a wonderful verdigris patina. This eagle was a prized possession of Dr. Ladd Heldenbrand who rescued it from the raising of the Morrill House at Forest and Allen Avenues in
Portland, Maine. The vane was restored by Valerie Hunt at the Shelburne Museum in 1991. Vane comes with its original directionals and was mounted in their two-floor open hallway since its restoration. The largest spread wing eagle weathervane that this cataloger has ever had the pleasure to handle. PROVENANCE: Ex-Dr. Ladd Heldenbrand Estate 3, So. Portland, Maine. SIZE: 56" wingspan, approx. 32" from the tail to beak. Arrow 58". CONDITION: generally good. (05-399/JJ). $10,000-20,000.
