This group contains well over 100, and possibly as many as 200, unsearched letters from WWII that likely have not been unbundled since the war. The letters appear to be mostly to a Major Kenneth L. Houston, and the vast majority are in their original stamped envelopes that are tied together in five bundles. There is one loose handwritten document that is titled "Proposal for the establishment of a cleanup force to be attached to each Corps." This fascinating document addresses the problem of rogue groups of ex-"Hitler Jugend" firing on loan vehicles and small groups of allied troops. It goes on to say, "For all the evils we attach to the SS and SA organizations, they were good for the safety and security of the Nazi governments." A truly exemplary archive worth extensive research and possibly even transcription. CONDITION: most letters and/or envelopes have some degree of yellowing or edge wear, but the information held within is easily read and quite sharp. (02-23407/BF). $400-700.
