Cal. 36. S# 102930. Bbl. 7 1/2" octagon w/ New York address & cone type front sight. Round six shot cyl. w/ naval engagement scene roll engraving. Blue & case colored finish w/ silver finished backstrap & 4th model large brass trigger guard. 1 piece Ivory grip. Mfg. 1861 during the American Civil War. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Captain Charles Wesley Beale died Jan 12, 1862 while serving w/ the 24th TN Confederate Infantry Regiment. Paperwork includes copies of company muster roll & roster along w/ a copy of "TENNESSEANS IN THE CIVIL WAR" including available rosters listing Captain Beale. A typed copy of a letter to his widow dated Jan, 1862 from H. C. Campbell talks of the circumstances of his death & the condition of his affairs. The papers w/ the gun are certified by J. W. Cullom, Company Chaplain & Lt. Col. Tho. H. Peebles, Company Commander. A letter dated Nov 24, 1993 from a charter member of the Tennessee Gun Collector's Association talks of the discovery of this firearm at a church bazaar in Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to gray showing scattered pitting. Cyl. retains 75% scene. Grip straps have 70% silver finish having a gray tarnish. Ivory grips show age-related shrinking & yellowing w/ grain checks. Left panel has chips at toe & along front grip strap. Sound action. Dark lightly pitted bore has sound rifling. (01-22898/DS).
