SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 254474. Bbl. 32 5/8" with pinned blade front sight and Model 1879 graduated leaf rear sight. Low arch case colored 1873 dated breech block. Springfield lock. 2 Band walnut stock with slotted tip ramrod and original leateer military sling. Left side of stock has a sharp 1884 dated cartouche. Toeline of stock has circle "P" firing proof with "M" inspectors mark. Left side of butt has rectangular stamped "DETROIT / BOARD / OF / COMMERCE". Left side near buttplate also has hand carved marking "F.50." UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 8 pages of printed information from Springfield Research attributing rifle to Private August Anderson, Company E, 1st Regiment Illinois Infantry. Research shows this rifle was with Private Anderson in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. CONDITION. fine. Barrel and action retain 70% lightly worn blue showing dark spotting. Breech block shows some lightly visible case colors. Original stock finish shows wear with scratches, marks and dents. Bore is bright with strong rifling showing a few small spots of very light pitting. (01-21401/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
