TO HERMANN PFUTZNER.
This fine Imperial German Navy dagger measures 14 1/2" overall with an 8” Damascus steel blade. The blade has 2 narrow fullers on each side and is stamped at the ricasso “(knight’s head)”. Gilded brass hilt featuring a cross guard with central naval anchors and a crowned pommel. The grip is wire-wrapped white certifiably antique ivory. The gilded brass scabbard has an oak leaf design on both the body and the suspension loops. The name “Pfutzner” is engraved on the scabbard 2” down from the throat. Hermann Pfutzner was born on 24th of October 1880. He entered the Naval service in 1898 and served through WWI. Among his decorations was the Iron Cross 1st Class. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: papers showing the service of Pfutzner and period catalog pages showing similar daggers. CONDITION: blade has a pleasing gray patina. The hilt & scabbard show traces of original gilding. The ivory grip has expected tight age cracks. The scabbard has one small circular dent. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E.
