This fine Imperial German Navy dagger measures 19 1/2" overall with a 13 1/4” blade. The blade has a raised medial ridge and is unmarked on the ricasso. Gilded brass hilt featuring a cross guard with central naval anchors and a crowned pommel. The grip is spirally carved white bone and is correctly tied with a gold bullion knot featuring black & red highlights. The gilded brass scabbard has a lightning bolt motif. The belt is silver bullion brocade with a gold Imperial Naval buckle featuring a “W” superimposed on a crowned anchor within a wreath of laurel. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with some evidence of light pitting. The hilt & scabbard show only slight traces of original gilding. The bone grip shows light wear, as does the knot. The scabbard shows wear but remains quite solid. The belt shows very light overall wear. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18712/BF). $1,000-1,400.
