MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 8799d matching numbers on receiver, bbl., trigger guard assembly & upper band. Bbl. 29 1/4". Langer rear sight graduated to 2000 meters. Inverted V front sight. Receiver ring is marked on top “DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN 1908”. Right side of receiver ring has Imperial proofs. Left side of ring has eagle acceptance mark. Left receiver rail marked “Gew 98.” plus 13. Bbl. marked over chamber w/ “S”. Straight handle replacement bolt assembly. Cleaning rod & bayonet bar are present. Upper band w/ parade hook. Bottom swivels. Correct period brown leather sling w/ original QD swivel. Matching walnut stock set marked on right side of butt w/ Imperial acceptance marks. Unmarked steel marking disc. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: model 1898/05 bayonet w/ 14 1/2" plain back fullered blade. Blade is marked on left ricasso “GOTTLIEB HAMMESFAHR SOLINGEN, FOCHE” w/ “cross in pyramid”. Back of blade marked w/ Imperial crown “W 16”. Grooved walnut grips made w/ flash guard. Steel scabbard w/ leather frog. Bayonet has bright blade turning gray w/ light wear, has been sharpened. Balance of metal turning overall gray & patina. Scabbard has wear, dents, light pitting, turning gray & patina. Frog has wear, scuffing & flexing w/ loose stitching. CONDITION: original finish stock set has moderate wear, staining & handling marks throughout while retaining a generally good appearance. Receiver & bolt were bright turning gray & patina w/ light oxidation. Balance of metal turning gray w/ traces of original blue. Good shiny bore w/ lightly worn lands. (23-50/RW). CURIO. $900-1,200.
