SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER, LOADING TOOL, & CLEANING ROD. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 1101u. Bbl. 7 7/8". LP.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM for the Imperial German military in 1916. The top of the bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1916", with DWM arsenal proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall, with strawed and nitre blue parts also exhibiting a reapplied finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Fine tune dovetailed blade front sight, with adj. tangent V-notch rear sight, graduated 1-8. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., front side blade, rear sight assembly, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, as well as the toggles. Grips are unnumbered. MAGS: 1 non-matching (faint S# 502) plated 8-rd. mag., with wood bottom. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather holster marked "HERM.FLOHR/ 1915/ *COLN*" on the body beneath the closure flap, containing an imperially proofed loading tool, as well as an original cleaning rod. Belt straps on rear of holster have been replaced (seemingly during the period), with a single black leather belt strap. Loading tool provision is a button replacement. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting a few areas of light to mild wear and thinning (primarily on bbl. and on edges), with scattered areas of light to mild pitting present beneath the bluing overall. Strawed and nitre blue parts retain the majority of their reapplied finishes, exhibiting some spots of pitting. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting, while retaining good rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing, as well as some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting some wear, scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, as well as some spots of light age related crazing. Loading tool and cleaning rod exhibit scattered spots of pitting, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-370/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
