SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 82697. Bbl. 5 1/2". C96 "Red 9" semi-automatic pistol, mfg. by Mauser during WWI under contract for the Imperial German military. The top flat of the faceted breech is marked with Mauser's mfg. information, with the S# and a commercial double-crowned "U" proof on the left flats and a German military acceptance proof on the right. Right side of the frame is marked with Mauser's mfg. information, with the front of the mag. well exhibiting an Imperial German Reichsadler. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall, with the hammer and bolt assembly being polished "in the white." Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved red "9" grips, which have been revarnished at one time. Standard blade front sight with tangent rear sight graduated from 50 to 500 meters. All numbers are matching and include the frame, floorplate, bbl./bbl. extension, bolt carrier, bolt stop, hammer, lock frame, sear, locking block, as well as the grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: non-matching wood shoulder stock. CONDITION: metal components retain bountiful amounts of their reapplied blue finish overall, exhibiting some scattered superficial handling marks, with scattered areas of light pitting present beneath the finish. Bright bore (as refinished), exhibiting consistent moderate pitting while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips are good, showing a few handling marks and minor impressions overall. Stock exhibits scattered marks from handling and storage, with four cracks of varying degrees stemming from the top of the holster body. (24-2056/MLW). CURIO. $700-1,100.
