NAMBU SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 8mm Nambu. S# 4580. Bbl. 4 9/16". Type 14 Nambu semi-automatic pistol mfg. at the Kokubunji factory under Nagoya supervision in January of 1942. Left side of the frame exhibits Kanji characters denoting the model designation, with the Nagoya / Kokubunji arsenal insignia, Series I symbol, S#, and Showa date code "17.1" marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a blue finish (which appears to have been polished at one time), save for on some small parts, which are strawed. Bolt assembly and locking block are polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with sanded and refinished 2-piece grooved wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and integral frame square notch rear sight. Large pattern trigger guard and grooved cocking knob. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, mag. safety, mag. release button, trigger guard, trigger, bbl. extension, locking block, and cocking knob, with remaining parts being unnumbered. MAGS: x1 non-matching (S#: 169) blued steel 8-rd. CONDITION: metal components retain traces of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting wear and thinning overall that has faded to gray and mottled gray patinas. Original arsenal markings have been noticeably softened due to polishing. Bore is bright, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting and scattered spots / small patches of moderate pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with the usual drag line present on the left panel from the safety lever. (25-6571/MLW). CURIO. $300-500.
