15" Overall, 10" blade, 2 1/2" wide. This is a well patinaed “as found” bowie made for the frontier but did not see a lot of use as the well filed & ground blade retains most of its original shape & sharpness, including 2 1/2" sharpened false edge. Crown stag grip is retained w/ 2 iron rivets & fits hand beautifully. Top edge of knife has long bevel. This knife has the feel & form of the few “Sandbar Fight” era guardless fighting knives w/ no distinct design. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, rarely do what we think are 1830 vintage knives found unmolested such as this w/ well patinaed carved initials “FW” crown stag grip. Blade has iron patina w/ several sm. nicks in cutting edge. PROVENANCE: From the Robert Vines Collection. (02-15314-8/JS). $1,200-1,800.
