EXPOSED HAMMER, COUNTERWEIGHT, & EXTENDED REAR SIGHT. Cal. 22 LR. S# 5594. Bbl. 8 1/2". Although Walther is world renown for its Olympia pistols, collectors are always searching for the rare variations, especially pistols with an exposed hammer, whose production has been reported approx. 150 guns. This example has an 8 1/2" bbl. with a modified front sight so as to present a bead profile. The usual windage adj. rear sight is absent its blade. A tang extension provides the basis for a vertically adj. rear sight bar whose windage adj. is identical to the original. The left side of the slide is marked with the usual Walther address for its Olympic pistols that includes the Walther banner, company name, patent reference, and "Olympia-Pistole". The right side of the slide is marked "CAL .22 long rifle" suffixed by "TILLH. SV. MIL. IDROTTSF." over the post-factory applied frame reference "N.R.27". Usual Crown/N proofing on the bbl. along with adjacent frame and slide. The gun has been fitted with large 3-piece counterweight, has a serrated trigger, button release mag., and a vertical rotating safety lever with "S" and "F" detents. Checkered front strap. Fitted with target grips with 3-panels of checkering, the thumb rest on the left augmented by a pieced in extension. Mag. whose right side has 5-indicator holes, buttoned follower, and a wood floorplate extension marked "15" on the left side and secured with 2-screws at the base. MAGS: 1 5-rd. CONDITION: the pistol appears as an old refinish, with the applied "TILLH. SV. MIL. IDROTTSF." marking on the slide and forward frame under the blue. The trigger and adjacent pins, formerly blued, are now in-the-white. All 3 counterweights are professionally made replacements, rust blued, and faded to match the pistol. The tang mounted sight is also a superbly crafted replacement. Generally good grips with the pieced in thumbrest as previously noted. VG original condition mag. Mirror bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. A super unusual and exotic appearing Walther 1936 Olympia, one of very few with an external hammer, especially impressive with the added counterweights and assembled rear sight. (25-3544/LMA). CURIO. $2,500-4,000.
