UNIQUE EAGLE PATCHBOX. Cal. 45. NSN. 61" Overall. Bbl. 45" oct. w/ inset silver front blade sight & adj. rear sight, lightly decorated breech & tang. This beautiful gun is unsigned, thought to be York County, pictured on pages 34-35 Gunsmiths of York County by James Whisker. This rifle has exceptional artistic merit w/ the 4 piece pierced patch box w/ lg. spread wing eagle finial; incised carved C-scrolls; pierced & engraved long toe plate; 6 silver insets not including 8 additional engraved silver keyway escutcheons; dbl. set triggers. CONDITION: fine overall, appears original w/ no apparent restoration, iron has mottled gray patina, brass is overall medium mustard patina, stock has fine striped maple color except around wrist where it is darker possibly hiding a wrist repair, but if so it is professionally done & not detectable. There is a toe repair near patch box button; less than 1". Mechanically fine w/ crisp rifled bore. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of John "Tim" Breth Jr. (01-17757/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
