ASTRA M300/2 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, SHIPPED TO THE CONDOR LEGION. Cal. 380 ACP. S# 525115. Bbl. 3 7/8". 1 of only 158 M300/2 ("/2" indicating engraving pattern) semi-automatic pistols mfg. by Astra in 1936 and subsequently sent to the Condor Legion in 1938-1939, as documented on page 185 of "Astra firearms and Selected Competitors" by Leonardo M. Antaris. The top of the slide is marked with the Astra logo, towards the muzzle, with a Spanish "P" within an ordnance bomb proof marked on the left, and the S# marked on the right. Left side of the frame exhibits various Spanish proofs. Slide and frame exhibit factory scroll engraving, with the slide exhibiting an additional band of engraving towards the muzzle. Frame and bbl. exhibit a silver plated finish overall, with some small parts including the safety lever, grip screws, mag. release button, lanyard ring, extractor, as well as the mag. exhibiting a chrome plated finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece yellow tinted pearl-like celluloid grips. Sides of grips feature Astra logo decals, with the right grip also exhibiting a mostly legible"UNCETA Y CIA/ GUERNICA ESPANA" decal at the bottom of the panel. Standard fixed half-moon blade front sight, with fixed U-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame (right side and with the last 3-digits of the S# marked on the left beneath the grip panel), slide, as well as the bbl. MAGS: 1 6-rd. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original factory silver plated finish, exhibiting some spots of bubbling and flaking overall. Silver plated finish exhibits an appropriate tarnished patina. Bright bore, exhibiting light pitting and some areas of mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some light superficial handling marks and some areas of wear to the decals, with a crack present on the left panel that stems from the screw slot. An exceptionally scarce and attractive, factory silver plated and engraved, Condor Legion shipped Astra M300/2 pistol. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Bill Peterken. (24-6136/MLW).
