RIFLE. Cal. 7.62x51. S# B2288. Numbers match on the receiver, bolt, and bayonet lug. Bbl. 25". Butt socket is marked on the right side with a faint Indian crest: "RIFLE 7.62mm R.F.I. 1965." Markings were faintly obscured by the Arsenal rework finish. Tangent rear sight is the later 2A1 Type, graduated to 800 meters. Blade front sight. The nose cap has protective ears and a bayonet lug. Ears have a distinctive squared appearance. These rifles were made . of improved steel to withstand the higher pressure of 7.62 NATO ammunition. Stock set of dark Indian hardwood. Buttstock is marked on the right side with a faintly encircled "SA" with a vertical arrow. Forend has an "INDIAN KISS"-marked cross bolt. Buttstock has pinned repairs at heel and toe plus a straight-cut aluminum buttplate with trap. The lower buttplate screw is not present. The rear handguard has a small area of replaced wood plus transverse wood reinforcement. MAGS: 1 Detachable 10 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: matching Navy Arms cardboard shipping box and instruction pamphlet. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, staining, and handling marks. Metal has an arsenal rework-type black finish with extensive thinning and wear. Very good, shiny bore. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Terrence McCarty. (24-326/RW). CURIO. $200-300.
