ACCOUTREMENTS & SWORD. This fine group includes 1 Civil War period canteen with a later Indian War cover & sling. The khaki cover is stenciled “C 5 MASS 73” on one side, and the other side has the large stenciled initials “D.I L”. The sling is khaki cotton webbing & is 1 3/16” wide. The stopper & chain are intact. / 1 Spanish American War haversack in khaki cotton canvas. The front is stenciled “2 (crossed rifles) H IDAHO 52”. / 1 Leather military rifle sling, likely for a 30-40 Krag. / 1 Circa 1890 pistol belt with rectangular buckle impressed with an oval “US” in the center. There are several cartridges in the belt, and a black leather military holster embossed “US” in oval on the body is attached. / 1 M1874 belt plate with “US” in oval on the face. / 1 Late unnumbered Indian War Service Medal. / 1 M1872 Cavalry Officer's sword measuring 41” overall with a 34 1/2" blade. Blade is etched over 10” on each side with foliate motifs, an American eagle, and “US”. Gilded brass hilt with 2-branch guard. Standard pommel. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Plated scabbard with gilded brass mounts. CONDITION: canteen & haversack show light to moderate wear. Pistol belt also shows light wear with flexing to the leather holster. Sling shows moderate wear. Sword blade has some staining particularly near the hilt. Hilt shows light wear. Scabbard has scattered staining concentrated near the throat. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Glen E.
