Cal. 31. S# 218101. Standard configuration, bbl. 4" oct., 1 line New York address. Nicely engraved on backstrap “STEWART HANCOCK”. Serial numbers all match; revolver was made in 1862. Housed in compartmented mahogany casing w/ burgundy velvet lining. ACCESSORIES: 2 cavity “COLT’S PATENT” bullet mold marked “31PKT”, cap tin, and small eagle flask.
CONDITION: revolver is good to very good overall. Iron is smooth gray patina w/ areas of staining, markings all good & discernible, rolled stagecoach holdup scene is visible on cyl. Grips retain much of their original factory varnish w/ numerous nicks, scrapes & scratches. On the edges of each grip at butt, there are carved notches of unknown purpose. There are also tacking marks on bottom of grips. Brass backstrap & triggerguard have traces of silver in protected areas balance of brass burnished bright. Mechanically fine, crisp rifled bore. Casing is good, interior lining faded to purple; one partition broken. Mold is average w/ some dull blue finish, eagle flask appears to be a reproduction in good condition. (01-19921/JS).
