AINSWORTH USN”. Regulation model 1852 US naval officer sword, sea serpent quillon & drag, 27” blade with etched patriotic naval motifs. Top scabbard mount inscribed in script “Charles Ainsworth / USN”. Charles Ainsworth (1836-1907) entered US Navy in 1860 was made ensign 1863 on USS Richmond which saw service under Admiral Farragut, especially at bombardment of Port Hudson where she is listed multiple times in official records. Ainsworth stayed with Richmond till discharge July 14, 1866. Charles would spend his last 14 years in National Home for disabled veterans in Kennebec Maine where he died in 1907. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: lg. file of research. CONDITION: very good overall, blade cleaned with all discernible etched panels, brass hilt & mounts cleaned toned to light mustard.
