Cal. 36. S# 19961. The backstrap is inscribed "Lt. Col John Clark". John Clark was born to an Irish-American in Philadelphia Nov. 30, 1822. Prior to the war he was a contactor on projects that included the Pennsylvania Railroad, Hudson River Railroad and Croton Waterworks in N.Y.C. He served as a member of the House in Philadelphia County. In 1861 Clark voluntered and was elected Captain in the 3rd regiment, Co. E, 32nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserves. He was promoted to LT. Colonel on July 10, 1862 and commanded his regiment at Antietam where he was wounded. Later in 1862 by order of the War Dept he assisted in building military railroads. Bbl. 4-1/2" round with New York address. On January 5, 1869 Clark was elected 88th Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representative. Died May 30.1872. Fluted rebated 6 shot cyl. Blue & case colored finish with silver finished grip straps. Frame, bbl., gripstraps & wedge have matching numbers. Walnut 1 piece grip. Mfg. 1863. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl & cyl retain over 30% blue with balance fading to an even brown. Frame shows 60% nicely visible case colors Grip straps retain over 60% silver finish. Grip has good original finish shows some wear and handling marks. Action is tight & in time. Wedge screw may be replacement. Bore has good rifling with scattered light pitting. (01-21605/DS).
