& CAPTURE PAPER. 1) The framed capture paper is not dated but refers to a regulation, with the August 1944, which establishes the approximate age of the certificate. The items referred to on the certificate are "Cloth" and "1. Bayonet." The certificate is signed by "John Gold, 1st Lt. Ord. Dept." 2) Austrian Jager Model 1854 socket bayonet. Overall length: 28 1/4". Blade length: 23 1/4", fullered. Bayonet has no visible markings. CONDITION: bayonet shows wear, patina, and moderate oxidation, fine pitting throughout. 3) US Model 1873 triangular blade socket bayonet. Overall length: 19 1/2". Blade length: 16 1/2". Blade is marked on top "U.S." Triangular steel scabbard with leather frog and "US"-marked brass disc. 4) A canvas and leather takedown shotgun case, marked "T.B. DAVIS ARMS CO. PORTLAND, ME." CONDITION: bayonet has traces of blue with wear, turning gray and patina, with light oxidation and fine pitting throughout. Steel scabbard has oxidation and pitting. Leather frog has wear, cracking, and flexing. Case is in poor condition, with wear, staining, scuffing, and loose stitches. (02-23453/RW). $150-250.
