PAINTED POST, NY (1858-1874). Cal. 38/38. NSN. Bbls. 30", have a hickory ramrod mounted on each side. A single standing leaf rear sight is installed in top flat marked "B.C. WOOD P. POST N.Y.". Rifle is fired by a combination of standard back spring sidelock stamped w/ same name & address as bbl. & underhammer lock w/ mainspring formed from trigger guard bow. Figured American walnut stock is mounted w/ brass buttplate w/ 4 1/2" return having spear finial & circular German silver patchbox on right side. CONDITION: bbls. retaining a considerable amount of what appears to be original brown. Lock has gray to brown patina. Stock retains most of what appears to be it's original oil finish. Bores are very good to fine w/ strong rifling, bottom approaching excellent. Locks are operable. Sidelock hammer appears to be a replacement. Front sight missing.
