PERCUSSION SHOTGUN WITH ORIGINAL CASE AND ACCESSORIES. Cal. 10 Ga. S# 7139. The 30" skelp twist barrels are engraved "Westley Richards. 170. New Bond St. London." on broad game rib. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs, S#'s and barrel maker's initials "GT". Breech plugs with vented platinum blowouts have platinum bands at rear and scroll engraving on rib extension. Front spring island type locks are fitted with tall flat faced serpentine hammers with stylized dolphin heads. Locks and breech iron are engraved with sprays of large open scroll that is very nicely cut. Trigger plate has pineapple finial. Trigger guard is engraved with scroll on bow and with S# on tang. Stock of well marbled and lightly figured European walnut measures 14-1/2" over steel buttplate with scroll engraved long top tang. Stock attaches to barrels with captive side bolt through oval silver escutcheons and is checkered at grip and forend. Stock also features silver flash guards under breech iron and a vacant silver oval on toeline. An ebony ramrod serial numbered to this gun on face of brass tip has brass tail with worm under cap. Ramrod mounts through two plain pipes and pineapple type thimble. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .761. R .761. Restriction: L .000. R .000. STOCK: DAH: 1-3/4". DAC: 1-1/2". CAST: about 1/2" off. LOP: 14-1/2"WEIGHT: 7 lb. 13 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in its original mahogany case with dual pivoting hook and keylock closure with brass corners and circular "D" ring handle. Interior is lined in green cloth and paper Westley Richards label is in lid. Frame of lid is marked with this guns S# in usual Westley Richards fashion. What appear to be original accessories include: two piece cleaning rod with short type handle, crystal oil bottle by Hawksley, circular brass capper by Sykes, a shot snake marked "Patent" and a tin of Eley percussion caps. There are two covered compartments with bone handles; one holds pig skin covered flask with German silver head by James Dixon, the other contains an 11 bore wad punch, main spring vice and combination "T" shaped nipple wrench and pricker with brass caps covering compartments for spare nipples (not present). CONDITION: exceptionally fine. Barrels retaining over 90% original brown with a scattering of marks and some minor loss of lustre from cleaning of flash rust. Left blowout shows scratches; right has been peaned; possibly replaced. Breech iron and locks retain nearly all their case hardening color; breech iron shows some pitting inside fence area which is cleaned to brown. Trigger guard has 85-90% original bright blue. Buttplate has most of its blue. There are only 4-5 marks in the original oil finish of stock. Checkering with minimal wear. Bores are bright and shiny. Locks are crisp. Case exterior shows some scratches and rubs and a repaired crack full length along hinge side of top. Interior cloth is very good to fine with bleaching in proximity to buttstock. There are also some rubs and marks from contact with barrels. Label is lightly foxed and has three small rubs through. Interior partitions are good; accessories are fine.
