MILITARY CARBINE. Cal. 6.5 Carcano. S# L1281. Bbl. 17 3/4". Bbl. is marked on the right side over the chamber with an inverted "PS." Dated 1912. Maker's name has been removed from top of chamber. Serial number appears on the left side. Tangent rear sight graduated to 1,800 meters. Inverted "V" front sight. Turned down bolt handle. 13" triangular blade folding bayonet with lever-type latch. Non-matching hardwood stock set. Handguard appears to be hobbyist gunsmith replacement. Provision for side sling. Illegible circular marking on left side of buttstock and four deep "bored soldier" notches on left side of grip. CONDITION: stock has moderate wear, staining, and handling marks throughout. Metal retains 40% of its original worn-thinning finish, turning gray and patina. Receiver has been ground on top, likely to remove a marking. Bayonet, mount, and bbl. band have been cleaned to a bright finish. Bore has worn lands, turning dark in the grooves. (24-5991/RW). CURIO. $100-200.
