CARTRIDGE CONVERSION CARBINE. Cal. 577 Snider. NSN. Bbl. 21 1/2". Breechloading Snider Patent cartridge conversion carbine. top of the rnd. bbl. is engraved "J.C. & A. LORD. LONDON BIRMINGHAM & BOMBAY, with British proofs marked on the left towards the breech. Lockplate features decorative border engraving, as well as 2 flower motifs, with "J.C & A. LORD" at the center. Top of breechblock exhibits a faint "SNIDER/ ("S" INTERTWINED WITH ARROW)/ PATNET", with an faint "S" intertwined with an arrow also marked over the chamber. Metal components have been cleaned at one time, and are in-the-white. Checkered wood straight grip half-stock, with horn tipped forearm, and 3 iron ramrod ferrules. Contemporary blade front sight, with standard V-notch rear sight, graduated 1-4. Ramrod is absent. CONDITION: metal components have been cleaned and are in-the-white, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting, as well as areas of age related discoloration overall. Center ramrod ferrule exhibits a hole at the center. Left side of breechblock exhibits what appears to be a small welded section right at the edge of the firing pin ramp. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered areas of pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Wood stock appears to have been lightly sanded and reoiled, exhibiting scattered marks, some minor impressions, as well as a few chips from handling and storage, with a crack stemming from the horn tip on the left side of the forearm.
