SHOT PRESENTATION RIFLE. Cal. 40-63. S# 1800. Bbl. 28" octagon to round. Combination front sight, filler in rear dovetail w/ mid range peep tang sight. Case colored action features a non-rebated receiver w/ full loop lever. Left side of receiver is engraved "Ballard A-1". Right side is engraved "Mid Range". Horn tipped forearm & S curved pistol grip stock of fancy thin shell walnut w/ hand checkering & steel shotgun buttplate. Right side of stock has a silver oval nameplate marked "Presented to / Capt. M. J. Kelley Boston / May 30th 1889 / by / Frank P. Norton"; consignor states M. J. Kelley is Michael Joseph Kelly (1857-1894), manager of the Boston Beaneaters from 1887-1890, Boston Reds in 1890 & Cincinnati Kelly's Killers in 1891. WEIGHT: 7 lbs, 12.2 ozs. CONDITION: bbl. retains over 90% reblued finish. Action has faded to silver gray. Refinished wood shows small handling marks. Bore retains sound rifling showing small spots of pitting.
