EJECTOR DOUBLE SHOTGUN WITH EXTRA SET OF BARRELS AND CASE MADE FOR THE SOUTH AMERICAN MARKET. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4" (original). S#179756/7 (the "7" is the last digit of the S# of the second set of barrels). It appears that J.P. Sauer made a number of very fancy (deluxe) shotguns for their agent in Buenos Aires in this S# range. This fine gun has the 1st set of barrels 29 1/2" S#179756 & the 2nd. set of barrels 26 5/8" S#179757; both of chopper lump construction and fitted with slightly raised matted flat ribs. Retailers name "Ad. Voelker" and his Argentinean address are engraved on milled out portion of rib. Rib extensions are gold inlaid with roman numerals "I" or "II". Rear portions of ribs are also semi-relief engraved with standing ducks in marshy background. Breech ends of barrels are engraved for 1-1/2" with very well cut scroll with acanthus highlights. Maker's name is around each barrel. Steel type (Krupp Special) is also on each barrel. Barrel flats are stamped with pre-WWI German Imperial proofs, cave man logos and crowns. S#'s are on bottom of left barrels. "70" (2-3/4") is stamped on extractors. Coin finished scalloped backed boxlock action features blocked out safety, crossbolt third fastener which engages square shouldered dolls head rib extension: side clips, vented strikers, raised rib cocking indicators and double triggers. Action is nicely filed and fences are deeply relief carved with broad acanthus on sides and volutes at tops. Action is engraved with full coverage well cut shaded acanthus scroll with oak leaf highlights within geometric boarders. This exceptional scroll surrounds game scenes with relief gold inlaid Picazuro pigeons in flight through branches. Maker's name and address is at the bottom on each side. Carving of fences is accented by gold inlaid scroll devices. Blued top lever and trigger guard are engraved with scroll and foliage matching action. S# is on tang. Very nicely marbled and stump figured, dark and dense European walnut buttstock measures 14-3/4" over open sided "White Line" pad which appears to be fitted to the original curve of the stock. Stock also features vacant silver oval and point pattern checkering with mullered borders. Matching splinter ejector forend with horn tip and Deeley release serves both barrel sets. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: #I. Bore Diameter: L .721. R .719. Restriction: L .022 (Mod). R .012 (Light Mod). Wall thickness: L .031. R .035. STOCK: DAH: 2-1/16". DAC: 1-11/16"+. CAST: about 1/4" off. CAST: about 1/4" off. LOP: 14-3/4". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 5 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun and extra barrels are housed in what appears to be their original oak and leather case with shaped brass corners. A rectangular German silver plate is set into top. Case is lined in purple velvet and does not contain any accessories. CONDITION: good as refinished. Barrels retaining nearly all good quality re-black. It also appears that the second set of barrels has been shortened with bores opened somewhat to restore choke restriction. Action has been cleaned to coin finish. Stocks retain over 90% of an oil refinish. Checkering very competently cleaned up. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems. 1st set of barrels shows some looseness, 2nd set slightly off face with lateral looseness. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is dark with many rubs and dings and shows some water damage. Straps and handle missing (1 replacement strap present). Interior cloth is fair to good with rubs and compressions. Partitions are good. A striking custom ordered gun of superb quality. (24-2222/MGM). CURIO. $10,000-15,000.
