This bronze by noted cowboy sculptor J. Shirly Bothum shows in stunning detail an Indian on horseback & a buffalo turning to attack his horse as the Indian prepares to use his lance. The bronze measures 20" L X 12 1/2" W X 14 1/2" H (including the lance). The bronze is provided w/ a walnut base approx. 1 3/8" thick but is no longer attached. The base has a brass colored tag which is marked "HUNTER'S CHOICE / BY J. SHIRLEY BOTHUM". This artist began his sculpting work in the early 1970s following his career as a cowboy and rancher. He certainly had great familiarity w/ his subjects. CONDITION: bronze has light high point wear but appears complete. The wire wrapping on the iron portion of the lance has been reattached at some point. Wooden base has very light wear & scattered handling marks. (02-19538/RW). $800-1,200.
