20th century. This impressive bronze depicts Hemingway's fishing boat the "Pilar" in the gulf stream fighting a marlin shown jumping from the water. The captain at his post on the roof of the boat flanked by outriggers. The fisherman is seated in the fighting chair, one mate at the stern, the second mate holding the chair. The boat is rendered with further detail forward showing open hatches, multiples coils of rope and two anchors on the foredeck. Gulls are shown flying above the waves. The marlin depicted breaching the water, dragging fishing line behind. The boat is moving astern forming a wall of waves. The bronze is mounted on a rectangular mahogany plinth. Signed "Jackson Ehrlich" on edge of bronze at stern of ship in water. SIZE: 17 1/2" h x 15" w x 37" l. CONDITION: all original surfaces with fine, undisturbed patina. The line has become detached from the mouth of the marlin, but remains intact and is easily reattached. (02-18979/TG). $7,000-10,000.
