Kyu-gunto of this form were generally used from 1883 until 1945. They became popular during the Russo-Japanese War and remained in service until the close of WWII. Overall length: 37 1/4”. Blade length: 27”. Blade has a wavy hamon and a hi. The habaki is sheet silver over brass with an etched design on both sides. The nakago is unsigned and has a single mekugi-ana. The tsuka is gilded brass with white same and a gold-plated wire wrap. There is a 10-petal cherry blossom on either side of the grip and a silver seal that appears to feature a 3-lobed blossom. There are 3 seppa above & below the guard. Saya is chrome plated and covered with brown leather with a brass tip. There is a black knot attached to the guard. CONDITION: blade has a nice polish with very minor staining. Tsuka shows light wear overall, but could use a cleaning. Saya shows light wear. Leather remains solid.
