TRIPOD. These lg. high quality optics were mounted on most Japanese ships during WWII. This 20 power pair have 4" objective lenses & measures 21" front to back. Plate is also stamped “JES ??”. Comes complete w/ aluminum tripod by Gitzo w/ base adapted to these binoculars. CONDITION: it appears these binoculars actually saw service during the war & saw some of the ravages of being outside in a salty environment. Although most of the paint is intact, it is considerably faded & objective lens mounting rings show corrosion & expansion from contact w/ the elements. Optically fair to good. Prisms somewhat clouded w/ flare in right side. Objectives lenses show some fogging on interior. Ocular lenses fairly clear. Rubber eye cups are perished. (02-15619/MGM). $1,000-1,800.
