Overall length: 36 1/4". Blade length: 25 1/2". Blade has no perceptible hamon due to improper cleaning. Copper habaki. Interesting iron tsuba depicting 2 well articulated lobsters or prawns. There is 1 seppa below the tsuba. Nakago has a single mekugi-ano. There is a signature on 1 side of the nakago that appears to be 5 characters but is difficult to discern due to oxidation & pitting. Matching fuchi & kashira. Brown tsuka ito w/ white same & 2 interesting menuki featuring what appears to be a person beating a drum. It is difficult to see the menuki due to the tsuka ito. Black painted wooden saya w/ a single brass suspension loop & iron ring. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, cleaned, mottled finish w/ a sm. forging flaw 11 1/2" up from the tsuba. Tsuba has an ancient dark patina. Tsuka shows moderate to heavy wear. Saya has light overall wear. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Jack Verret Sr. (02-16478/BF). $300-500.
