Cal. 40. NSN. Tapered oct. 18 1/4" bbl. w/ raised bead front & groove rear sights. Top of bbl. behind rear sight has brass colored inlaid ornamentation to include trees, vines & cherry blossoms. Brass matchlock action w/ stud trigger. Iron pan has brass swivel cover. Hardwood stock decorated with 14 maple leaves, 1 ornate medallion on bottom forward of trigger guard & 1 geometric pattern on left stock to hold cord. Club style butt has heelplate. Wooden ramrod. CONDITION: bbl. has fair corroded patina appearance w/ peppery oxidation throughout. Brass has pleasing mustard patina w/ handling marks. Lock is unable to stay in cocked position has trigger bar is broken. Bbl. band has loose play. nose area has 2 splices 4" long. Sanded & refinished wood has good appearance w/ impressions & scratches. Dark pitted bore. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22459/MD). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
