Overall length: 25 1/2". Blade length: 18 1/2". Blade has a nearly imperceptible hamon that appears, in one section, to be straight. An interesting blackened and gilded copper two-piece habaki with a tiger pelt-like motif. Black lacquered wood tsuba with three inset brass cherry blossoms at the top. The tsuba appears to display the mon of the Oda clan, a well-known Samurai family. There is one seppa above and below the tsuba. The nakago has a single mekugi-ana with no signature present. The matching fuchi and kashira have a small amount of inlay work with a swimming and flying duck motif. The menuki appear to be blackened dragons with inlaid highlights. Black tsuka-ito over age-darkened white same. Saya is mother of pearl-inlaid black lacquer bound in brass. There is an iron kogatana on one side. CONDITION: blade is out of polish and shows areas of light pitting with a few smaller nicks to the ha. Tsuba is broken in one spot with losses, but the profile remains the same. Tsuka shows light to moderate wear, as does the saya. (02-21143/BF). $600-900.
