Cal. 22 RF. S# 1743. Octagon barrel measures 22 1/2" & is 7/8" across flats at muzzle. Rocky Mountain style front sight with altered German Silver blade, filler in rear dovetail with a midrange Vernier tang sight. Left side of action has 3 line JM Marlin address and patent markings. Hand stamped above the marked "U. S. C. Co. / #129". Schnabel tipped forearm and straight grip walnut stock with crescent steel buttplate. JM Marlin produced the Ballard from only 1875-1881. The Marlin Firearms Co. then produced the Ballard rifles from 1881-1891. CONDITION: metal has faded to mottled gray showing sm. spots of pitting. Wood has added finish over wear and handling marks. Forearm has large chip at right side of tip. Stock has cracks extending from action and buttplate. Action shows wear, lever hangs loose. Dark lightly pitted bore with worn rifling. (01-22738/MD).
