WITH SCOPE. Cal. 7x57. S# 4836 (CA 1922). The 25" tapered round barrel is fitted with a two folding leaf express rear sight in sleeved on island base. Silver bead front is in classic Rigby style ramp. A typical Rigby type sling eye is soldered on. Top of barrel is engraved "Sighted for Rigby Special High Velocity" "John Rigby & Co 43 Sackville St. London W." ".275 Bore Cartridges Pointed Bullet 140 Grains". Left rear is stamped with London nitro proofs for 31 grains of cordite and 173 grain bullet. A Rigby type front scope mount is dovetailed through. Model 98 Mauser large ring standard length action is stamped with S# and top of receiver ring is stippled. Rigby rear scope mount is soldered to bridge. Bolt body is polished and engine turned, handle has been lowered and slimmed. Shroud is fitted with model 70 type safety. Trigger is of standard double pull type. Bottom metal is of standard military type without lock screws, S# is on bow. Round knob pistol grip stock of lightly streaked European walnut measures 13 1/2" over checkered wood butt. Point pattern checkering is at grip and around forend. A sling loop and silver oval engraved "NEJ" are on toeline. Rifle is fitted with Zeiss Diavari-C 1.5-4.5X scope with three post reticle in custom rings. CONDITION: fine as refinished, metal parts retaining about 90% good quality reblue. Stock has a good scattering of marks and scratches in its renewed oil finish. Checkering re cut. Bore is shiny with strong rifling and some erosion at throat. Mechanically good, scope is good with a few marks on exterior, optically clear but with a flake at lower left of field. Bolt must be removed to install scope. Rifle is fitted with a brown leather sling by J.C. Ennis. (22-5858/MGM). CURIO. $5,500-7,500.
