20” file branded haft, characteristic unsharpened 8.75” head, 4” cutting edge, decorated with rolled engraved floral pattern on one side, just border decoration on other. John Wilson (1805-1870) from Chadron, Nebraska is among the very few frontier blacksmiths whose work is well known and especially his rocker rolled designs which is exhibited here. CONDITION: very good overall, head is grey iron patina, scattered nicks and scratches, head fits well to added tacked haft shimmed with leather gasket. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18500/JS). $2,000-4,000.
