DOUBLE RIFLE ONCE THE PROPERTY OF TONY SANCHEZ ARINO. Cal. 475 No. 2. S# 15734. (CA. 1914). The 26" chopper lump barrels are fitted with quarter rib holding one standing two folding leaf express rear sight. Front ramp holds small silver bead and flip-up porcelain night bead. Tops of barrels are engraved with maker's name, address and caliber "475 No 2 3 1/2" Case 85 GRS Cordite 480 Gr Bullet". Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for the same load. Case hardened Webley screw grip, square back sidelock action features bolted automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold), long top tang which extends over comb, screw grip third fastener engaging square shouldered dolls head rib extension, bushed strikers, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and gold plated double triggers (front articulated). Action and lock plates are border engraved with small scrolls. "Joseph Lang & Son" is on each lockplate. Blued trigger guard has S# on tang which extends to steel trap grip cap. Pistol grip buttstock of dark marbled, lightly figured, dense European walnut measures 14 3/8" over red "Decelerator" pad. Stock features shadow line right hand cheek piece, drop points, point pattern grip checkering and a sling eye fitted with a later sling loop on toe line. Also on toe line is a silver shield engraved "TONY" "SANCHEZ" "ARINO"; (noted African big game professional elephant hunter and author.) Matching splinter Southgate ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: approx. 2 7/8" DAC: approx. 1 13/16". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14 3/8". WEIGHT: 10 lb. 12 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: PROVENANCE letter - as related in the letter by Tony Sanchez Arino rifle made in 1928. He shot his first elephant with this rifle when he was 22 years old. At the time it was owned by Juan Dural later bought by Tony who shot about 300 elephant. 600-700 buffalo, about 40 lion and 43 black with it. He owned it until its sale in 2016 to consignor in the last line he states: I've send it to you together with "part of my heart"!!. CONDITION: fine as completely refinished, barrels retaining nearly all of a good quality reblack, engraving considerably softened. Action retains nearly all of a recolor case hardening, engraving compromised, very thin in spots. Stocks retain nearly all of a well done oil refinish, checkering recut, is sharp and has some overruns. Bores are good, shiny, but rifling shows considerable wear, rifle will most likely still shoot well. Action is tight, barrels are on face, ejectors are strong and in time.
