MODEL REVOLVER. Cal. 31. S# 60474. Bbl. 4” octagon w/ flattened brass front sight. Top flat is engraved “Sam Colt”. Five shot round cyl. w/ stagecoach scene roll engraving. Frame, bbl., loading lever & grip straps have early Germanic style scroll engraving w/ punch dot backgrounds as produced in Gustave Young’s shop. Hammer has signature wolf’s head ornamentation. Left side of frame has engraved “COLT’S/PATENT” marking. Silver finished backstrap & small brass trigger guard. Bbl., frame, grip straps & cyl. have matching numbers. Wedge has none matching number “84843”. Trigger guard has a period marked beneath S#. 1 Piece walnut grip. Mfg. 1853 prior to the American Civil War. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Kidder casing w/ brass corners & blue cloth fitted interior. Case contains pocket size eagle flask, 2 cavity brass mold, cap tin, round balls & bullets. CONDITION: good. Metal has faded to gray showing light pitting. Cyl. retains 25% scene. Grip straps show a mild patina w/ traces of silver in protected areas. Roughly refinished grips show wear & small marks. Action shows some wear, cyl. exhibits some sideplay. Bore retains sound rifling showing spots of light pitting. (01-22843/JB). ANTIQUE. $5,000-7,000.
