NAVY LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 9908. Bbl. 5 7/8". Model 1906 1st Issue Navy Luger mfg. by DWM for the Imperial German Navy. The left side of the bbl. extension is marked with a naval crown proof, followed by 2 Naval Crown/M proofs. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Original down safe "GESICHERT" marking has been mostly milled away, with a new "GESICHERT" marking applied in the upper safety position at the time of arsenal alteration. Rear grip strap is Kiel Dockyard marked "W.K./ 8178". Major metal components exhibit what appear to be a period reapplied blue finish overall. Bbl. exhibits a contemporarily reapplied blue finish. Strawed parts have been reheated at one time. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Grip safety appears to have been repaired at one time. Most numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, grip safety, bbl., bbl. extension, breechblock, and toggles. MAGS: 1 8-rd. Navy Pattern (S#6309). CONDTIION: metal components retain the majority of their blue finishes, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray and brown patinas, some scattered spots of light to mild pitting (both above and below the finish), as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Strawed parts are very good, as reheated, with the trigger exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina. Very bright bore, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some impressions, as well as scattered nicks and marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. (24-6842/MLW). CURIO. $2,500-4,000.
