Overall length: 20 1/4". Blade length: 13 7/8”. Plain, massive, nearly 2” wide blade has a 2 3/4" false edge at the clipped point. The iron D guard hilt was made by attaching the knuckle bow to the crossguard by peening over a round pin extending from the end of the crossguard. The pommel cap is formed by the end of the knuckle bow. The knife has a 2 piece bone grip secured by 3 iron pins on either side. Leather scabbard w/ coin silver throat & tip. The bottom edge of the throat & top edge of the tip have an undulating edge & a pierced circle in the center of each side. The throat has a frog stud button & the extreme tip has what appears to be 2 stacked ovoid disks as a finial. Scabbard body has tooled linear decoration & a stitched center seam. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray mottled patina. Hilt has a general dark patina. Bone grips have acquired a pleasing cream color & show minimal age cracks. Silver mounts on the scabbard have a few tiny dents & have acquired a pleasing tarnish. Scabbard body has scuffs & scrapes but remains remarkably solid & undamaged. (02-14717/BF). $4,000-5,000.
