ARCHIVE (1880-1931). Large group of Fred Sladen's uniform insignia though the ranks are among affects found in his 25" x 16" x 12” trunk with initials and old shipping labels, and still have functioning key for the 2 locks. Inside trunk is WW1 OD helmet with 3rd Army painted insignia, aiguillette with tag, gas mask with canvas bag & strap. There is a large group of insignia from his earliest ranks out of West Point through general. Insignia includes: four sets of shoulder straps (2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain & Major), metal lieutenant colonel oak leaves, silver colonel eagles, and general stars. There are chevrons and belt buckles from USMA cadet days. 2 WW1 Victory medals, each with 2 clasps; 1918 Chateau-Thierry medal with busts of Washington & Lafayette; several foreign shoulder knots; 3 navy hat bands; sterling framed photo of young Lt. Sladen wearing collar eagles and crossed rifle insignia that is included. His wife Elizabeth Lefferts Sladen kept her Society of Colonial Wars, Society of Colonial Dames, Mayflower Descendants medals in her husband's Legion D'Honneur medal box along with miniature Legion D'Honneur, and 5 other miniatures including DFC & DSC. There are many buttons taken from uniforms throughout Sladen's career, including West Point, Span-Am, & WW1. Also in lot are several items of General Fred W Sladen Jr., including a 3rd Infantry Division stein 1953 & a small painted box presented to Brigadier General Fred Sladen 1959 from "the dog faced soldiers from Fedala" with some of his insignia.
